HANDS ON WORK BY MEMBERS OF THE OGC
We get our hands dirty and feet wet…and it’s fun! We connect with each other while connecting with the earth. From rose pruning at public gardens, to bay side environmental clean-up, our members encourage seeds to grow in the community.
In addition to hands on volunteerism, the Orinda Garden Club provides: Grants and Contributions and Public Education and Events. |
Orinda Beautification
There’s no place like home…taking pride in beautifying our town. The recently replanted off-ramp at Hwy 24 and the triangle at Camino Sobrante are just two areas where we put on gloves and pick up trowels to enhance and maintain our community landscape.
Planters in Downtown Orinda
We recently purchased and installed large pots and plantings in downtown Orinda. Together with The Orinda Junior Garden Club and Montelindo Garden Club, OGC members maintain the pots and are proud to add to the charm of our crossroads community.
Partners for Plants - Bay Visions
Orinda Garden Club and the Piedmont Garden Club work with Save The Bay to restore the shoreline in Oakland. In another project with the East Bay Regional Parks, we encourage the Pollinator Pathways in East Bay parks by planting the California Pipevine which attracts the swallowtail butterfly.
David Austin Rose Garden
Established in 1996, The Orinda Garden Club's English Rose Border at Heather Farms boasts over 200 roses based on a design by David Austin himself. The OGC members planted and have primarily maintained the garden for over 20 years. For more information see the history section.
Bouquets for Hospital Patients
For over 50 years, OGC Members have met monthly to create bouquets for indigent patients at the Contra Costa County Regional Medical Center. Sharing small gifts of beauty and friendship while serving others is what we do. So far, we have delivered over 50,000 bouquets.
Library Flowers
Brightening the Orinda Library with fresh floral creations, OGC members prepare and deliver weekly arrangements throughout the summer.
Wreaths Around Orinda
OGC members spread joy, cheer, and beauty by decorating the city for the holidays. We purchase wreaths from local Scout Troop 237, decorate them with loving hands and together, with the scouts, we hang the wreaths in and around Orinda.
