By Christine Stoneberg The San Francisco Flower Mart at 6th and Brannan has often been revered as “The best flower market in the country”. We wholeheartedly agree. The mart officially open at that location in 1956 but has actually been in that South of Market neighborhood for local growers to come together as early as 1924. The property was purchased by Kilroy & Co. in 2014 to be developed into office space, retail and a public plaza. The flower mart will remain open in its existing location until mid-2020 and will then move to temporary quarters at 2000 Marin St. in the Protrero Hill neighborhood. The project at 6th & Brannan is slated to be finished in 2024 and when completed, the mart will move back to that location with 115,000 square feet of ground level space. This seems to be an ever-changing plan and timeline and we will keep you up to date as it unfolds. We may miss the charm that comes with the mart in its current state but are hopeful that it will eventually be back at its original location even better…more to come.
