Everyone knows that bad things happen if one microwaves food in a metal container, but did you realize that one should also avoid microwaving anything in a plastic container or wrap?

When food is microwaved in plastic containers, chemical additives from inside the plastic may migrate into the food and tiny flecks of plastic known as micro- and nanoplastics are also shed into the food. Both of which can present health risks.

More than 16,000 synthetic chemicals are added to plastics to give them various qualities like shine, flexibility, strength, heat resistance, water resistance, etc. Unfortunately, more than a quarter of these added chemicals are known to be TOXIC to humans and our environment.
