Community Events
Feel free to invite friends and family to the Orinda Garden Club's annual community meeting. Our presentation this year will address the important topic of plastic pollution. The Orinda Library Auditorium seating is limited, so please plan to arrive early. If you're bringing a guest, please sign up two people.
Patrick Jurney, Plastics Project Director at the Nature Conservancy, will be the speaker.
Patrick oversees initiatives aimed at significantly mitigating plastic pollution. His responsibilities include leading projects to curtail microfiber emissions, assessing the harm of plastics in agriculture and advocating for legislative measures which address single use plastics. Prior to this role, among other accomplishments, Patrick supported dozens of cities and counties in implementing their Climate Action Plans. He graduated from Colorado College with degrees in Environmental Science and Southwest Studies.
Patrick's presentation will include: the Nature Conservancy's scope, the Plastic Problem and policy work to address it, the terrifying threat of microplastics, and how to minimize the negative impacts of agricultural plastics. There will be time for questions at the conclusion of our not-to-miss meeting.
Please plan to stay for a "Conversation with the Orinda City Manager" directly following our speaker's presentation at 11:00am.
