Kelly Sorenson, Executive Director, Ventana Wildlife Society, spoke at the Zone XII Leadership Council in Carmel. Over his 20-year term, he has pulled out all the stops to protect the California condor and its native habitat. The condor is the largest land-based bird in California with a wingspan of 10 feet and daily flight distance of 150 miles. Sorenson has produced Condor Canyon, a documentary film, that will be broadcast nationally on PBS this spring. The film dives deep into the lives of three mating pairs of California condors and their fight against lead poisoning, fires, and DDT contamination. Their challenges are heartbreaking but ultimately these unique birds survive and are reunited. The story is profoundly moving and is bound to make us fall in love with this majestic bird. With this film, the outreach and education for the California condor will be tremendous! Sorenson needs a total of $20,000 and is asking for $3000 to $5000+ sponsorships to make this broadcast happen. The sponsor’s name will be narrated and written on screen for up to 15 seconds. Contact him directly at [email protected]. The webpage for Condor Canyon is https://www.ventanaws.org/condorcanyon.html
